šŸ“° James Franklin Named Coach of the Year After Leading Penn State to Historic Season…read more…

University Park, PA – June 18, 2025

In a season defined by grit, precision, and championship-level ambition, James Franklin, head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions, has been officially named Coach of the Year, capping off what many are calling one of the finest campaigns in school history.

Franklin, now in his 12th season leading the Nittany Lions, orchestrated a remarkable 2024–2025 run that saw Penn State finish undefeated in regular season play, defeat both Ohio State and Michigan, and earn its first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. For fans and analysts alike, this season felt like the culmination of a decade-long vision brought to life.

ā€œThis is more than just a personal award,ā€ Franklin said at the press conference following the announcement. ā€œThis reflects the heart and hustle of our players, the commitment of my coaching staff, and the unwavering support of the Penn State community.ā€

The accolades didn’t come easily. Franklin’s team faced one of the most difficult schedules in college football, navigating through an expanded Big Ten Conference and overcoming multiple ranked opponents. The Nittany Lions’ defense, led by newly hired coordinator Jim Knowles, finished the season ranked #1 nationally in total defense, while the offense averaged over 38 points per game.

But it wasn’t just statistics that set Franklin apart — it was leadership. From building a resilient locker room culture to developing high-character athletes both on and off the field, Franklin’s fingerprints were on every element of the team’s success.

ā€œCoach Franklin has done an outstanding job,ā€ said Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti. ā€œHis ability to recruit, mentor, and compete at the highest level has elevated the entire conference.ā€

For the Penn State faithful, the honor is a moment of pride and long-awaited validation. Franklin has long been a beloved figure in Happy Valley, known for his passion, integrity, and deep connection to the university. With this recognition, fans feel their program is not just competing — it’s leading.

ā€œThis is what we’ve dreamed of,ā€ said Jessica Miller, a Penn State alumna and die-hard fan. ā€œFranklin didn’t just give us wins — he gave us belief.ā€

This Coach of the Year award adds to Franklin’s already-impressive resume, which includes a Big Ten title (2016), multiple New Year’s Six bowl appearances, and a string of top-ranked recruiting classes. Yet, this season stands above the rest — a perfect blend of preparation, performance, and purpose.

Looking ahead, Franklin shows no signs of slowing down. With another strong recruiting class on the way and the majority of his key players returning, the foundation for continued success is firmly in place.

As the confetti settles and the award is added to the trophy case, James Franklin remains focused: ā€œWe’re not finished yet. The goal is to make Penn State a champion — year in and year out.ā€
