Suriname and Guyana Unveil Plans to Distribute Oil and Gas Revenues to Citizens

PARAMARIBO, SURINAME – In a landmark move, the governments of Suriname and Guyana have announced plans to distribute a significant portion of their oil and gas revenues directly to citizens.

The initiative, which is aimed at ensuring that the benefits of the countries’ natural resources are shared equitably among the population, is expected to transform the lives of thousands of people in both countries.

In Suriname, the government plans to establish a sovereign wealth fund, which will receive a portion of the country’s oil and gas revenues. The fund will be used to support social programs, infrastructure development, and education initiatives.

Similarly, in Guyana, the government has announced plans to introduce a cash grant program, which will provide a direct payment to citizens from the country’s oil and gas revenues.

“We believe that the wealth of our nation should benefit all of our citizens, not just a privileged few,” said Suriname’s President, Chan Santokhi.

Guyana’s President, Irfaan Ali, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “We are committed to ensuring that the benefits of our oil and gas resources are shared fairly and transparently with all Guyanese.”

The move has been welcomed by citizens in both countries, who are eager to see the benefits of their natural resources translated into tangible improvements in their lives.

“This is a great step forward for our country,” said Jennifer Singh, a resident of Georgetown, Guyana. “We are excited to see the positive impact that this initiative will have on our communities.”

The distribution of oil and gas revenues to citizens is expected to commence in both countries within the next 12-18 months.
