Guyana and EU Hold 9th High-Level Talks to Strengthen Ties

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA – The Co-operative Republic of Guyana and the European Union (EU) have concluded their 9th Political Dialogue, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and deepening cooperation between the two parties.

The high-level talks, which took place in Georgetown, Guyana, brought together senior officials from both sides, including Guyana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd, and the EU’s Ambassador to Guyana, Fernando Ponz Cantó.

During the dialogue, the parties discussed a range of issues, including trade, development cooperation, climate change, and regional security.

“We value our partnership with the European Union and look forward to continuing our collaboration on issues of mutual interest,” said Minister Todd.

Ambassador Ponz Cantó echoed similar sentiments, saying, “The EU is committed to strengthening its relationship with Guyana and supporting the country’s development goals.”

The 9th Political Dialogue marked an important milestone in Guyana-EU relations, which have been growing steadily over the years.

The EU is one of Guyana’s largest trading partners, and the two parties have been working together on a range of development projects, including initiatives focused on sustainable forestry, climate change, and human rights.

The next round of political dialogue is expected to take place in 2026.
