Jimi Hendrix Set to Release New Album Featuring Rare and Unheard Recordings – A Timeless Revival Awaits

More than five decades after his untimely death, the spirit of Jimi Hendrix lives on — and it’s about to hit the airwaves once again. In a stunning announcement that has electrified fans around the world, the Hendrix estate and Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. have confirmed the upcoming release of a brand-new album featuring never-before-heard recordings by the legendary guitarist.

Titled “Ethereal Skies: The Lost Sessions”, the album is set to be released on August 15, 2025, and will include a collection of unreleased tracks, demos, and alternate takes unearthed from the vaults. Many of these recordings date back to 1968 and 1969, a period considered to be the peak of Hendrix’s creative output.

A Journey Back in Time

The album promises to offer a deep dive into the artistry and experimentation of Hendrix’s musical mind, capturing his brilliance in the studio as he explored uncharted sonic territory. These sessions were reportedly discovered during an archival restoration project spearheaded by longtime Hendrix engineer Eddie Kramer and the late guitarist’s sister, Janie Hendrix, who serves as president and CEO of Experience Hendrix.

“This album is like stepping into a room where Jimi is alive and playing just for you,” Janie Hendrix said in a statement. “He was always ahead of his time, and these recordings show just how much further he was willing to go.”

Among the standout tracks expected to appear on the album are:

“Midnight Reverie” – a haunting, blues-drenched instrumental that showcases Hendrix’s ability to convey emotion without lyrics.

“Valley of Fire” – a previously unknown composition believed to have been written during the Electric Ladyland sessions.

Alternate takes of “Freedom” and “Angel” – giving fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse into Hendrix’s creative process.

Collaborations and Surprises

In addition to solo recordings, Ethereal Skies will also include rare collaborations with members of the Band of Gypsys — Billy Cox (bass) and Buddy Miles (drums) — as well as unreleased jams with Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell from The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Producers also hinted at a few surprises, including one track where Hendrix is heard experimenting with early synthesizer effects, a testament to his never-ending curiosity and drive to push the boundaries of sound.

“This is not just a nostalgia piece,” Kramer emphasized. “These are works of art in progress — vibrant, raw, and full of life. It’s Hendrix at his most intimate and fearless.”

Vinyl, Digital, and Deluxe Editions

Ethereal Skies: The Lost Sessions will be released across all major platforms, including streaming services, CD, and special edition vinyl. A deluxe box set will feature a 40-page booklet with rare photos, handwritten lyrics, and personal notes from Hendrix’s journals, offering fans a deeper connection to the artist.

Pre-orders for the album begin June 1, 2025, with early buyers gaining access to exclusive content, including a bonus track and behind-the-scenes footage of the restoration process.

An Enduring Legacy

Jimi Hendrix’s influence on music remains as strong as ever. Despite a career that lasted only four years, his impact continues to shape genres from rock and funk to jazz and hip-hop. His innovations with feedback, distortion, and guitar effects forever changed the way the instrument is played.

He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, and Rolling Stone has consistently ranked him among the greatest guitarists of all time. Yet, for many fans and musicians alike, the true magic of Hendrix lies in the idea that there is always more to discover.

This new release adds to a growing body of posthumous albums that have kept Hendrix’s name and music alive, such as First Rays of the New Rising Sun, People, Hell and Angels, and Both Sides of the Sky. But Ethereal Skies is already being described as one of the most intimate and compelling yet.

A Moment Worth Waiting For

Fans across the globe have taken to social media to express their excitement, with many calling the album announcement a “gift from the heavens.” Some artists, including John Mayer, Gary Clark Jr., and Lenny Kravitz, have also shared their enthusiasm, citing Hendrix as a lifelong inspiration.

As August approaches, the anticipation continues to build. More than fifty years may have passed since Hendrix last stood on stage, but with this new release, it’s clear: the legend is still playing — and we’re still listening.

Stay tuned for more updates, exclusive track previews, and in-depth interviews as the release date draws near. One thing’s for sure — the skies are about to come alive once more with the sound of Jimi Hendrix.
