BREAKING: DUKE LANDS FIVE-STAR SENSATION IN MASSIVE RECRUITING WIN OVER KENTUCKY, UNC, AND KANSAS — HE STATES TWO REASONS FOR CHOOSING THE BLUE DEVILS…..READ MORE…..

In a stunning move that has fans and analysts buzzing across the college basketball landscape, the Duke Blue Devils have secured a monumental commitment from five-star shooting guard Darryn Peterson, one of the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting class. The 6-foot-5 standout from Huntington Prep (West Virginia) made his decision public on Monday, selecting Duke over a long list of elite programs including Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, and Michigan.

Peterson, widely regarded as the No. 3 overall player in the class, brings elite two-way potential to Durham. Known for his polished offensive skillset, high basketball IQ, and fierce competitiveness, he’s been turning heads on the prep and AAU circuits for years. He averaged 24.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game last season while leading Huntington Prep against national competition.

His commitment instantly vaults Duke’s 2025 class to the top of the national recruiting rankings and adds a future NBA-caliber guard to the Blue Devils’ backcourt.

“This is where I want to be,” Peterson said in his announcement. “I’ve been thinking about this for a long time, and Duke just felt like home. From the way they coach, to the legacy of the program, to the players they’ve developed—it checked all the boxes.”

Peterson also stated two key reasons that led to his decision. While he didn’t elaborate fully in his initial comments, sources close to the recruitment indicate that Duke’s player development system and the personal relationship he built with head coach Jon Scheyer were major factors. “Coach Scheyer believes in me,” Peterson added. “He’s been honest, consistent, and he sees the bigger picture for me. That really meant something.”

The Ohio native originally gained national attention playing for Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA) before transferring to Huntington Prep to face tougher competition. He quickly proved himself against the country’s best, earning invites to elite showcases and earning MVP honors at multiple camps. On the AAU circuit, he starred for Team Phenom United, dominating top-ranked talent with ease.

Peterson’s recruitment was highly competitive. Programs like Kentucky and UNC pitched early playing time and NIL opportunities, while Kansas emphasized its championship pedigree. But in the end, Duke’s combination of tradition, development, and NBA success proved too much to pass up.

With Peterson in the fold, Duke continues its dominance on the recruiting trail. The Blue Devils are building around high-IQ, high-upside prospects who can contribute immediately and transition smoothly to the professional level. Peterson joins a long list of recent Blue Devil guards to make the leap to the NBA, including RJ Barrett, Tyrese Proctor, and Tre Jones.

Peterson’s commitment also sends a message to other top 2025 prospects: Duke remains one of the premier destinations in college basketball. With his explosive scoring, court vision, and commitment to team success, Darryn Peterson is poised to become a household name in Durham.

The Cameron Crazies are already counting down the days.
