In a major offseason acquisition that is sending waves through the NHL, the Edmonton Oilers have officially signed dynamic forward Ryan Lindquist to a five-year deal worth $42.5 million. The signing, announced early Tuesday morning by Oilers GM Ken Holland, addresses one of the team’s most pressing needs — elite scoring depth behind their top line.

Lindquist, 26, spent the last four seasons with the Minnesota Wild, where he developed into one of the league’s most versatile forwards. Known for his blazing speed, high hockey IQ, and two-way play, Lindquist posted career highs last season with 29 goals and 41 assists, cementing himself as a premier talent entering his prime.

“This is a huge moment for our franchise,” said Holland during a press conference at Rogers Place. “Ryan is the type of player who makes everyone around him better. He brings speed, skill, and a relentless motor. He’ll be a key piece in our push for a Stanley Cup.”

Lindquist will likely slot into the Oilers’ second line, offering much-needed support for stars like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, while bolstering both the power play and penalty kill. His ability to play center or wing gives head coach Kris Knoblauch flexibility to create more dangerous matchups.

For Lindquist, the decision to join Edmonton wasn’t just about dollars — it was about the opportunity to win.

“I’ve always respected the Oilers from afar — the energy in that building, the history of the franchise, and the talent on the roster,” Lindquist said. “When the opportunity came to join this core and be part of something special, it felt like the right fit for me personally and professionally.”

The Oilers’ front office made Lindquist a top priority early in free agency, reportedly beating out interest from the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers. The team’s pitch centered on the chance to be a key contributor on a contending team, and the Oilers’ recent playoff success — including back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances — made the decision even easier.

Oilers captain Connor McDavid was quick to praise the signing, calling Lindquist “an elite player who can help take us over the top.”

“He’s hard to play against, and now we’re lucky to have him on our side,” McDavid said. “This is the kind of move that shows how serious we are about winning.”

With Lindquist now in the fold, the Oilers appear more poised than ever to challenge for the Stanley Cup. As the team continues to tweak its roster, Oil Country can now look ahead to the 2025-26 season with renewed optimism and belief that their long-awaited championship  window is fully open.
