BREAKING: FAA administrator Mike Whitaker is expected to resign on the day of the inauguration

On January 20, the Federal Aviation Administration’s administrator declared his intention to relinquish his position.

In October 2023, Mike Whitaker was officially certified for the position. Administrators are typically appointed for a period of five years. Nevertheless, Whitaker declared in a statement that he would not complete his full tenure and did not provide an explanation for his decision.

“The privilege of my life has been serving as the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration, alongside this extraordinary team.” The statement said, “Your dedication to the safety of the flying public is the reason the United States has the safest and most intricate airspace in the world.” “This has been the most rewarding and difficult position of my professional life, and I wanted to inform you that my tenure will conclude on January 20, 2025.”

BREAKING: FAA administrator Mike Whitaker is expected to resign on the day of the inauguration

From April 2022 to October 2023, the FAA was without a permanent administrator. Whitaker assumed the position in October 2023.

Mark House, the FAA’s current Assistant Administrator for Finance and Management, will serve as Acting Deputy Administrator until President-elect Trump appoints a new agency chief.

The FAA has been exerting pressure on Boeing to resolve quality control issues at its factories and has restricted the planemaker’s production as part of the heightened supervision under Whitaker’s leadership.

Air traffic control personnel has been a persistent bottleneck for travel in the United States, particularly in crowded sectors such as the northeast, New York, and certain regions of Florida. The FAA has been criticized by airline executives for its failure to adequately staff its facilities, resulting in mandatory flight reductions and delays in specific regions. However, the agency has recently made efforts to address these issues.

There are numerous urgent matters that must be resolved by the individual who assumes the position. The FAA’s primary responsibilities include the ongoing supervision of Boeing and the recruitment of additional air traffic controllers.
