In a monumental recruiting victory for new head coach Mark Pope, the Kentucky Wildcats have landed one of the most electrifying prospects in the nation, as five-star point guard Trey Delgado announced his commitment to Kentucky on Monday.

Delgado, a 6-foot-3 floor general from Montverde Academy, is ranked as the No. 2 point guard and No. 6 overall player in the Class of 2025, according to 247Sports. Known for his tight handle, elite court vision, and fearless mentality, Delgado chose Kentucky over a star-studded list of finalists that included Duke, Kansas, and UConn.

“This decision was about more than just basketball,” Delgado said during a nationally streamed commitment event. “It’s about legacy. Kentucky builds pros and competes for banners. Coach Pope’s vision locked it in for me.”

This commitment represents a major milestone for Pope, who took over the reins of Kentucky basketball with the pressure of living up to one of the sport’s richest traditions. And now, with Delgado in the fold, he’s proven he can win big on the recruiting trail.

“Trey is the kind of player who elevates everyone around him,” Coach Pope said in a press release. “He has the talent, the toughness, and the leadership we want in our program. He’ll make an impact the second he steps on campus.”

Delgado had been a priority target for nearly every blue-blood program in the country. A highlight machine with a deep bag of moves, he averaged 18.9 points, 7.3 assists, and 2.1 steals per game during his junior season, leading Montverde to a national top-five finish.

Analysts have compared his game to a mix of Tyrese Maxey’s explosiveness and Jalen Brunson’s IQ, making him a perfect fit in Kentucky’s up-tempo offensive system.

For the Big Blue Nation, Delgado’s decision was met with immediate excitement. “We got our PG!” one fan tweeted. Hashtags like #TreyToUK, #WildcatWay, and #PopeEra began trending as soon as the news dropped.

Delgado is Kentucky’s first five-star commitment in the 2025 class, and he’s already hinted that he could be actively recruiting others to join him in Lexington. “I want to build something special,” he said. “I’m not coming alone.”

With NIL opportunities strong in Lexington, NBA exposure, and a rabid fan base, the Wildcats offered Delgado a complete package — one too strong to turn down.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing at Rupp Arena,” he said with a smile. “Now it’s real. I’m ready to win, to lead, and to bring a banner back to Kentucky.”

Delgado is expected to enroll next summer and could very well be the face of the Wildcats’ next deep tournament run. For now, Kentucky fans can celebrate — because the future of Big Blue basketball just got a whole lot
