An American Airlines flight that was supposed to land in North Carolina on Thursday was redirected to New York City after what seemed like a collision with a bird.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey informed USA TODAY that at 7:21 p.m. on Thursday, American Airlines Flight 1722, an Airbus AA321, took off from New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and was headed for Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).

American Airlines stated that the plane was redirected to JFK Airport in New York due to a reported bird strike.

The port authority stated that at approximately 7:43 p.m. on Thursday, the FAA informed LGA that the flight was being redirected to JFK Airport as a result of a reported bird strike.
