Canadiens Corporate Leadership Finalizes High-Impact Signing, Welcoming Dynamic New Player to Strengthen Team’s Core for Upcoming Season…read more…
MONTREAL — In a bold move that signals their commitment to contend in the upcoming NHL season, the Montreal Canadiens’ front office has announced the signing of highly touted free agent forward Logan Frasier to a five-year, $32.5 million deal. The 25-year-old winger, known for his explosive speed and offensive creativity, is expected to immediately bolster the team’s top-six forward group as the Canadiens look to build on their recent playoff appearance.
The signing was orchestrated by Executive Vice President Jeff Gorton and General Manager Kent Hughes, who have been actively reshaping the roster over the past two seasons. Frasier, who posted a career-high 27 goals and 58 points with the Seattle Kraken last year, brings both proven NHL experience and upside to a Canadiens offense that ranked in the middle of the league in goal production last season.
“This is a player who fits our identity — fast, skilled, and driven to win,” Hughes said in a press conference at the Bell Centre on Saturday. “We believe Logan can be a game-changer for us offensively, but also a leader in the room. We’re thrilled to have him in Montreal.”
Frasier, originally drafted 36th overall in 2018, had garnered attention from several playoff-caliber teams during free agency. However, Montreal’s growing young core — including captain Nick Suzuki, sniper Cole Caufield, and Calder Trophy winner Lane Hutson — played a major role in his decision to sign with the Canadiens.
“The direction of this team really excited me,” Frasier said. “I see a group that’s hungry, united, and building toward something special. I want to be a part of that journey.”
The Canadiens’ corporate and business leadership also expressed excitement over the deal. Team President France Margaret Bélanger emphasized the broader impact the signing will have on fan engagement, sponsorships, and the team’s brand heading into the 2025–26 season.
“Adding a marquee name like Logan Frasier not only improves our performance on the ice, but also resonates deeply with our passionate fan base,” Bélanger said. “It energizes the city, excites our partners, and continues our momentum as an organization both competitively and commercially.”
The deal includes a modified no-trade clause and annual signing bonuses, reflecting the Canadiens’ evolving approach to contract structure under their current regime. Frasier is expected to begin training with the team in early August ahead of camp.
This move also comes on the heels of Montreal’s acquisition of defenseman Noah Dobson and the strong emergence of young talent like Joshua Roy and David Reinbacher, further emphasizing the Canadiens’ transformation from a rebuilding club into a playoff challenger.
As the Canadiens prepare for what could be their most exciting season in over a decade, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how Frasier integrates into head coach Martin St. Louis’ system. If early expectations are any indication, Montreal’s latest signing could be a turning point in their climb back to championship relevance.
