Duke Head Coach and Partner Celebrate Joyful Milestone: Welcome First Twins into the World…Read More….

Durham, N.C. — The Duke Blue Devils family is celebrating far beyond the basketball court this weekend, as Head Coach Jon Scheyer and his partner welcomed their first set of twins into the world. The news, which broke early Saturday morning, has sparked waves of excitement across the Duke community and the broader college basketball world, marking a joyful milestone in the couple’s personal lives.

According to a statement released by the family, both babies arrived healthy, and both mother and father are overjoyed. The twins — a boy and a girl — were delivered at Duke University Hospital late Friday evening. The program confirmed that the entire family is doing well and that Scheyer will take a brief period away from coaching duties to spend valuable time with his newborns.

“This is truly one of the happiest days of our lives,” the couple shared in their official statement. “We are incredibly grateful for the love and support from the Duke community, our family, and friends. These twins are already surrounded by so much love.”

The arrival of twins comes at a unique point in Scheyer’s journey as Duke’s head coach. Having taken over the reins from the legendary Mike Krzyzewski, Scheyer has been managing the immense pressure of maintaining Duke’s standard of basketball excellence. Yet, in this moment, basketball takes a backseat as family becomes the focus. Fans and fellow coaches alike have been quick to send warm congratulations, with social media lighting up in celebration.

Former Duke players, NBA stars, and even rival coaches chimed in with messages of support. One ACC coach jokingly remarked, “If Coach Scheyer thought recruiting was tough, wait until he starts coaching twins at home.”

The university also released a congratulatory message, highlighting the significance of this moment not only for the Scheyer family but also for the Blue Devil family as a whole. “Coach Scheyer represents the values of leadership, family, and commitment. We could not be happier for him and his partner as they welcome these two beautiful additions into their lives,” read part of the message.

The twins’ birth adds another layer of legacy to a coach already carrying immense responsibility. Scheyer, who once captained Duke to a national championship as a player, now finds himself in the role of not just mentor to athletes but also father to two little ones. Those who know him best say he is more than ready for the challenge.

“Jon has always been a leader on and off the court,” said a close family friend. “Fatherhood is something he’s been looking forward to for a long time, and knowing him, he’ll approach it with the same passion, care, and energy he brings to basketball.”

For now, the Blue Devils faithful are reveling in the heartwarming news. While Duke’s season preparations continue under the guidance of assistant coaches, the spotlight shines squarely on a family moment that transcends the sport.

As the couple settles into parenthood, fans eagerly await the day the twins make their first appearance at Cameron Indoor Stadium — perhaps wearing little Duke jerseys of their own.
