*Gunfire Erupts at Guyana Border: 6 Soldiers Hurt in Confrontation with Venezuelan Gang*

Georgetown, Guyana – A tense confrontation at the Guyana-Venezuela border has left six Guyanese soldiers injured, following an exchange of gunfire with a suspected Venezuelan gang.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred early yesterday morning in the vicinity of the border town of Lethem.

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has confirmed that the soldiers were on patrol when they came under fire from a group of armed men, believed to be members of a Venezuelan gang.

“We can confirm that six of our soldiers were injured during the exchange, but fortunately, none of their lives are in danger,” said a GDF spokesperson.

The spokesperson added that the soldiers had been patrolling the area in response to reports of increased smuggling activity along the border.

Tensions between Guyana and Venezuela have been running high in recent years, with both countries locked in a longstanding border dispute.

The incident has sparked renewed calls for increased security measures along the border, with many locals expressing concern about the growing presence of armed groups in the area.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway, with Guyanese authorities working closely with their Venezuelan counterparts to identify those responsible.
