JOHN STONES VOICES FRUSTRATION AS MANCHESTER CITY THROWS AWAY LEAD TWICE IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CLASH
Manchester, England – Manchester City defender John Stones has expressed his frustration and disappointment after his team threw away a lead twice in their Champions League play-off match.
City took the lead twice in the match, but were unable to hold on to their advantage, ultimately drawing the match 2-2. The result was a blow to City’s hopes of advancing to the next round of the competition.
Stones, who has been a key player for City this season, was visibly frustrated after the match, and did not hesitate to express his disappointment.
“It’s frustrating, it’s annoying, it’s anger, it’s all sorts of emotions,” Stones said in a post-match interview. “We worked so hard to get the lead, and to give it away twice is just not good enough.”
Stones also lamented the fact that City were unable to capitalize on their dominance in the match, and were ultimately punished for their mistakes.
“We had chances to kill the game off, and we didn’t take them,” Stones said. “We gave them a lifeline, and they took it. It’s just not good enough from us.”
City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, also expressed his disappointment with the result, and acknowledged that his team had thrown away a great opportunity to win the match.
“We played well, but we didn’t capitalize on our chances,” Guardiola said. “We gave away two goals, and that’s not good enough. We have to learn from our mistakes and move on.”
The result leaves City with a lot of work to do in their next match, and Stones is aware that his team will need to be more clinical if they are to advance to the next round of the competition.
“We have to be more ruthless, we have to be more clinical,” Stones said. “We have to take our chances and kill teams off. That’s what we need to do if we want to go far in this competition.”
In other Manchester City news, the club has announced that it will be launching an investigation into the behavior of some of its fans during the match. The club has condemned the actions of a small group of fans who were involved in disturbances during the match.
“We are disappointed and saddened by the behavior of a small group of our fans during the match,” a club spokesperson said. “We will be launching an investigation into the incidents and will take action against anyone who is found to have been involved.”
The investigation is expected to be completed in the coming days, and the club has promised to take swift and decisive action against anyone who is found to have been involved in the disturbances.
