Marchand: 4 Nations ‘Means A Little More’ Being in Boston

As the 2025 NHL 4 Nations Face-Off draws closer, few players are feeling the weight of the tournament quite like Brad Marchand. The veteran winger, known for his fierce competitiveness and deep Boston roots, says the event carries special meaning this year — not just because of the international stakes, but because it’s being held in the city he’s called home for over a decade.

“It means a little more being in Boston,” Marchand said during a recent media availability. “This city has given me everything — a place to grow as a player, a fan base that’s supported me through it all, and memories that will last a lifetime. To represent my country here, in front of Bruins fans and in a building I know like the back of my hand, it’s incredibly special.”

The 4 Nations tournament, which features elite players from Canada, the United States, Sweden, and Finland, is being held in February 2025 at TD Garden. The format is seen as a lead-up to future international hockey events, including the anticipated return of the full World Cup of Hockey. For Marchand, it’s a chance to don the Maple Leaf once again, likely as one of the veteran leaders of Team Canada.

“It’s not every day you get the chance to play meaningful international hockey, especially with the NHL not being in the Olympics the last couple times,” Marchand said. “This tournament’s going to be intense, fast-paced, and full of pride. You’re not just playing for yourself or your team — you’re playing for your country.”

Marchand’s pride in playing for Team Canada is well-known. He was a key figure in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, most memorably scoring the championship-winning goal in the dying seconds against Team Europe. Now 37, he sees the 4 Nations as perhaps one of his last major chances to represent Canada on the international stage.

“There’s definitely more urgency,” he admitted. “You don’t know how many more opportunities you’ll get. I’m going to do everything I can to be ready, to make that roster, and to make an impact.”

Beyond the personal significance, Marchand also emphasized what the event means for Boston. “This is one of the best hockey cities in the world. Having an international tournament here is great for the fans and great for the game. It’ll show the world how passionate Boston is about hockey.”

Though the teams have yet to be finalized, Marchand is widely expected to be in serious contention for a roster spot thanks to his continued production and leadership. He ended the 2024–25 regular season with another strong performance for the Bruins, helping lead the team into the playoffs and demonstrating that his game still holds up against the league’s best.

“It’s just an honor,” he said. “To be part of this tournament, in this city — it brings everything full circle for me.”
