MICHIGAN WOLVERINES WELCOME FORMER FANS FAVOURITE LONG AS NEW OFFENSIVE LINE COACH — FORMER NFL STAR RETURNS, CITING TWO REASONS FOR HIS COMEBACK….READ MORE….

The Michigan Wolverines football program is thrilled to announce the return of Jake Long, the former NFL star and first overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, as the new offensive line coach. Long’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Michigan football, as the team looks to bolster its offensive front with the expertise of one of the program’s most celebrated alumni.
Jake Long played college football at the University of Michigan from 2003 to 2007, where he earned multiple All-American honors and established himself as one of the most dominant offensive linemen in the nation. Following his impressive collegiate career, Long was selected as the first overall pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 2008 NFL Draft. Over his professional career, he also played for the St. Louis Rams, Atlanta Falcons, and Minnesota Vikings before retiring in 2017 due to injuries.
Since retiring, Long has been widely admired not only for his contributions on the field but also for his inspiring personal journey. He underwent a significant physical transformation, shedding over 70 pounds and embracing a healthy lifestyle that includes Peloton cycling and therapy, reflecting his commitment to wellness and mental health.
In a press conference announcing his return, Long shared that two key reasons motivated his decision to come back to Michigan football. “First, I have a deep passion for mentorship,” Long explained. “I want to help young players develop not only their skills on the field but also their character and resilience off the field. This program gave me so much, and it’s an honor to give back in this way.”
He added, “Second, my love for Michigan runs deep. This is home for me — the place where my football journey truly began. Returning here allows me to reconnect with the community and the program that shaped me.”
Long’s appointment is expected to bring a significant boost to the Wolverines’ offensive line, a unit that has been a focus of improvement in recent seasons. His NFL experience, combined with his understanding of the Michigan culture and football tradition, makes him uniquely qualified to lead the offensive linemen in both skill development and mental preparation.
Head coach [Coach’s Name] expressed enthusiasm about the addition to his coaching staff. “Jake Long embodies everything we want in a coach: experience, dedication, and a passion for helping players grow. His return to Michigan is a tremendous win for our program, and I am confident he will make a lasting impact on our team.”
Long’s return also serves as inspiration for current players who aspire to reach the professional level. His journey from a Wolverine standout to a top NFL draft pick and then back to coaching underscores the value of perseverance and commitment.
The Michigan Wolverines community looks forward to the upcoming season with renewed optimism, energized by Long’s comeback and his commitment to mentoring the next generation of Wolverines.
