Bloomington, IN – In a stunning announcement that has sent shockwaves through the college basketball world, Indiana Hoosiers head coach Mike Woodson revealed that he will retire from coaching if the team wins a national championship next season.

Woodson, who is entering his third season at the helm of the Hoosiers, made the bombshell announcement during a press conference at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about my future, and I’ve come to realize that winning a national championship with this team would be the perfect way to cap off my coaching career,” Woodson said. “If we can achieve that goal, I’ll know that it’s time for me to ride off into the sunset.”

The news has left Hoosiers fans stunned, with many taking to social media to express their surprise and admiration for Woodson’s dedication to the program.

“Coach Woodson is a legend,” tweeted one fan. “If anyone can lead us to a national championship, it’s him.”

Woodson, who has over 30 years of coaching experience, has led the Hoosiers to two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 berth last season.

While Woodson’s announcement has added an extra layer of motivation for the team, players say they’re focused on taking things one game at a time.

“We’re not thinking about Coach’s retirement right now,” said junior guard Trayce Jackson-Davis. “We’re just focused on getting better every day and making a deep run in the tournament.”

As for Woodson, he says he’s excited to see what the future holds, both for himself and for the Hoosiers program.

“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, but I know we have even bigger things ahead of us,” Woodson said. “Let’s go win a championship!”
