Pomona, CA – NHRA legend John Force made a triumphant return to racing on Friday, competing in his first event of the 2025 season and marking a major milestone in his recovery from a devastating crash last year.
Force, 72, suffered severe injuries in the crash, which occurred during a qualifying run at the 2024 NHRA Finals in Pomona. The accident left Force with broken ribs, a bruised lung, and a severely damaged Funny Car.
However, after a long and arduous rehabilitation process, Force has made a remarkable recovery and is now back behind the wheel of his PEAK Antifreeze and Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS.
“It’s great to be back racing,” Force said during a press conference on Friday. “I’ve been working hard to get to this point, and it feels amazing to be back on the track.”
Force’s return to racing was met with a standing ovation from the crowd, and his fellow competitors were quick to offer their congratulations and support.
“John Force is a true legend of the sport, and it’s incredible to see him back racing after what he’s been through,” said Steve Torrence, the reigning NHRA Top Fuel champion. “He’s an inspiration to us all, and we’re honored to have him back competing with us.”
Force’s team, John Force Racing, has also undergone some changes during the off-season, with the addition of new crew members and a revised engine program.
“We’ve been working hard to get everything ready for John’s return, and we’re excited to see what the season holds,” said Mike Neff, Force’s crew chief. “John’s been putting in the work, and we’re confident that he’ll be competitive right out of the gate.”
Force will compete in Saturday’s qualifying session, with the hopes of earning a spot in Sunday’s elimination rounds.
“It’s going to be a tough road ahead, but I’m ready for the challenge,” Force said. “I’m just grateful to be back racing and doing what I love.”
