Lubbock, TX – In a stunning upset, the Texas Tech Red Raiders men’s basketball team defeated No. 1-ranked Baylor 75-72 at the United Supermarkets Arena on Saturday night.

The victory marked the Red Raiders’ first win over a top-ranked team since 2009 and sent shockwaves throughout the college basketball world.

Texas Tech’s TJ Holmes led the way with 25 points, including 7-10 from three-point range, while Kevin McCullar added 18 points and 7 rebounds.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game, but our guys were ready for the challenge,” said Texas Tech head coach Mark Adams. “We played with a lot of heart and determination, and it paid off.”

The Red Raiders’ defense was also key, holding Baylor’s high-powered offense to just 38% shooting from the field.

“We knew we had to be tough on defense and make it hard for them to score,” said Holmes. “We did a great job of that, and it gave us the chance to win.”

The loss was Baylor’s first of the season, and it dropped the Bears to 15-1 overall and 3-1 in the Big 12.

“This is a tough loss, but we’ll bounce back,” said Baylor head coach Scott Drew. “Texas Tech played a great game, and you have to give them credit.”

The victory improved Texas Tech’s record to 12-4 overall and 2-2 in the Big 12, and it marked a major turning point in the Red Raiders’ season.

“We’re on a roll now, and we’re feeling confident,” said McCullar. “We’re looking forward to our next game and seeing where this season takes us.”

The Red Raiders will look to keep their momentum going when they face off against Kansas State on Tuesday night.
