In a recent interview, The Bangles’ guitarist Susannah Hoffs opened up about her experience working with the late music legend Prince, revealing a pivotal moment when she had to assert herself during their collaboration.

Hoffs, known for her role in the iconic 80s band, spoke candidly about the challenges of working alongside one of the most influential artists in music history. She recalled a specific incident during their time recording the hit song “Manic Monday,” where Prince, who wrote the track, pushed for changes that Hoffs felt were not in line with her vision for the song.

“There came a point where I had to put my foot down,” Hoffs said. “Prince was incredibly talented, and I respected him immensely, but he had his own strong ideas about the sound. At the end of the day, it was important for me to make sure that we stayed true to the band’s essence and the direction we wanted to take.”

Despite their differing views at times, Hoffs emphasized that working with Prince was a learning experience and an opportunity to grow as an artist. She described the collaboration as one of the most unique experiences of her career, saying, “It was a balance of standing firm in what you believe while also allowing room for the genius of someone like Prince to shine through.”

The revelation has fans reflecting on the complex dynamics behind the scenes of one of the 80s’ most iconic hits and adds another layer to the story of how “Manic Monday” became a defining moment in both The Bangles’ career and Prince’s legacy as a musical mastermind.
