“Versatile Star Caullin Lacy Earns Spot on Paul Hornung Award Week 4 Honor Roll”…Read More….

College football continues to celebrate the athletes who embody versatility, toughness, and playmaking ability, and this week South Alabama standout Caullin Lacy received national recognition for doing just that. Lacy has officially been named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for Week 4, a distinction reserved for players who display exceptional all-around performance and the ability to impact the game in multiple ways.

The Paul Hornung Award, presented annually by the Louisville Sports Commission, honors the most versatile player in major college football. Hornung, a Hall of Famer nicknamed “The Golden Boy,” was legendary for excelling at quarterback, running back, kicker, and returner during his Notre Dame and NFL career. The weekly honor roll reflects those values by spotlighting athletes who excel not just at one position, but across several phases of the game.

Lacy’s performance this past weekend left little doubt why he was selected. The senior wide receiver was the definition of dynamic, showcasing his speed, hands, and ability to make defenders miss in space. He hauled in a string of critical receptions that kept drives alive, while also contributing in the return game and drawing defensive attention that opened opportunities for teammates. His blend of consistency and explosiveness has made him one of the most reliable playmakers in the Sun Belt Conference.

In four games so far this season, Lacy has emerged as the Jaguars’ go-to offensive weapon. He currently ranks among the league leaders in receptions and receiving yards, but his contributions extend far beyond the stat sheet. Coaches have praised his work ethic, his leadership on the practice field, and his willingness to step into multiple roles when the team needs a spark. That ability to adapt on the fly and impact special teams as well as offense reflects exactly what the Paul Hornung Award seeks to recognize.

Lacy joins a select group of athletes from across the country named to the Honor Roll this week. Each honoree has demonstrated the kind of versatility that forces opposing defenses and special teams units to prepare for them in every possible scenario. For South Alabama, the recognition brings positive attention to a program that continues to build momentum and showcase NFL-caliber talent.

Head coach Kane Wommack praised Lacy’s achievement, noting that his senior star “represents everything we want in a Jaguar—toughness, consistency, and the ability to step up when the moment is biggest. Caullin’s versatility is second to none, and we’re thrilled to see him recognized on a national stage.”

For Lacy, the Honor Roll nod is another step in what has been a remarkable college journey. Coming into the season, he was already on watch lists for several major awards, and his Week 4 recognition further strengthens his case as one of the most impactful all-around players in the nation.

As the season progresses, eyes will remain on Lacy to see whether he can continue stacking standout performances and perhaps earn a spot among the finalists for the Paul Hornung Award later this year. One thing is certain: South Alabama has a true difference-maker in Caullin Lacy, and his Week 4 honor is a testament to the versatility and skill that makes him a player to watch every Saturday.
