BREAKING NEWS out of Durham — In a massive recruiting win that will have ripple effects across college basketball, the Duke Blue Devils have secured the commitment of five-star point guard Jashawn Andrews, one of the most electrifying prospects in the 2025 class. The 6-foot-4 playmaker out of Los Angeles, California, announced his decision Sunday afternoon during a nationally televised interview, choosing Duke over strong pushes from Kentucky, Kansas, and UConn.

Andrews is widely considered one of the best pure guards in the country — a dynamic scorer with elite court vision, tenacious defense, and the ability to take over games in crunch time. With his commitment, Duke lands a true floor general who has already drawn comparisons to NBA stars like Jrue Holiday and Jamal Murray.

Speaking on his decision, Andrews said two key factors made Duke the clear choice.

“First, it was Coach Scheyer,” Andrews stated. “His vision for me, his belief in my ability to lead this team, and his experience developing guards at the highest level really stood out. Second, it’s the culture. The moment I stepped on campus, I felt that brotherhood. The tradition, the fans, the intensity — I want to be part of that.”

Andrews averaged 23.8 points, 6.5 assists, and 2.7 steals per game during his junior season at Sierra Canyon High School, leading his team to the state semifinals. His mix of athleticism, basketball IQ, and leadership have made him a household name on the high school circuit — and now a centerpiece of Duke’s future.

Recruiting insiders say Duke’s persistence paid off. Assistant coaches stayed in constant contact with Andrews and his family, and his official visit to Cameron Indoor Stadium reportedly sealed the deal. He was spotted courtside during Duke’s rivalry game against North Carolina and later described the atmosphere as “unreal”.

“It’s a dream come true,” Andrews added. “To wear that Duke jersey and compete for a national title — I’m ready to work.”

With Andrews in the fold, Duke’s 2025 recruiting class now ranks among the top three nationally. He joins fellow five-star forward Malik Taylor, giving the Blue Devils a formidable one-two punch heading into the future. Analysts believe Andrews could be a one-and-done prospect, but his impact on the court — and in the locker room — could define a new era of Duke basketball.

The Blue Devils’ backcourt is in good hands, and the message is clear: Duke is still a top destination for elite talent.
