In a stunning off-court revelation that has captivated Hoosier Nation, Indiana University basketball standout Oumar Ballo has officially announced his engagement to his longtime girlfriend, marking a joyous moment in the life of one of college basketball’s most dominant big men. The news broke on Thursday morning via Ballo’s personal Instagram account, where he shared photos from a private engagement celebration alongside a heartfelt caption confirming the upcoming wedding.

The 7-foot senior, who transferred from Arizona to Indiana ahead of the 2024–25 season, has become a fan favorite not just for his relentless performance on the court, but also for his humility, charisma, and leadership. His surprise announcement has set social media ablaze, with fans, teammates, and fellow athletes flooding the comments with congratulations and well-wishes.

“This has been a journey full of love, patience, and growth,” Ballo wrote. “I’m beyond grateful to be taking this next step with the woman who’s been by my side through it all. She’s seen me at my highest and lowest, and never stopped believing in me. Now it’s time to build our forever.”

Sources close to Ballo reveal that the couple has been together for over five years, having first met in high school in Mali before reconnecting during his early college days in the United States. Despite the challenges of long-distance and the pressures of collegiate athletics, their relationship remained strong, with Ballo often crediting her support for helping him stay grounded during difficult moments in his career.

The couple reportedly plans to hold a traditional engagement ceremony in Mali this summer, followed by a formal wedding celebration in the U.S. after the upcoming basketball season. Though no official wedding date has been shared yet, Ballo confirmed that the planning is already underway and that both families are actively involved.

Fans have responded to the news with overwhelming positivity. “This is beautiful! Oumar deserves all the happiness in the world,” one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter). Another IU supporter wrote, “He’s not just a beast on the court, he’s a real man off of it too. Hoosier Nation is proud!”

IU head coach Mike Woodson also chimed in, saying in a statement, “Oumar is a tremendous young man. His leadership, discipline, and maturity extend far beyond basketball. I’m thrilled for him and wish him and his fiancée all the joy and success in the world.”

As Ballo prepares to lead the Hoosiers into what promises to be a high-stakes Big Ten season, he does so with even more motivation and love behind him. With wedding bells now on the horizon and a championship chase ahead, 2025 is shaping up to be the most memorable year of his life.

One thing is certain — Oumar Ballo isn’t just winning in basketball. He’s winning in life.
