BREAKING: Relentless Pass-Rusher  Commits to Ohio State — Buckeyes Land Elite ACC Sack Machine…read more….

In a major boost to its defensive front, the Ohio State Buckeyes have officially landed one of the top edge defenders in the transfer portal — former North Carolina standout Beau Atkinson. The 6-foot-6, 265-pound defensive end announced his commitment to the Buckeyes this week, immediately elevating the team’s already formidable defense heading into the 2025 season.

Atkinson, who played two seasons with the Tar Heels, enters Columbus as one of the most disruptive pass-rushers in the ACC. During the 2024 campaign, he recorded 12 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and 38 total tackles, while constantly drawing double teams and wreaking havoc in the backfield. His combination of size, explosiveness, and technique made him a hot commodity in the portal, with multiple SEC and Big Ten programs pursuing his signature.

However, it was Ohio State’s winning culture, NFL development track record, and defensive scheme under new coordinator Jim Knowles that ultimately sealed the deal.

“I wanted to be in a place that not only competes for championships, but also helps guys like me reach the next level,” Atkinson said in a social media post confirming his decision. “The standard at Ohio State speaks for itself. I’m ready to be a part of something special.”

Atkinson’s arrival is timely. The Buckeyes are retooling their defensive front following the departure of both Jack Sawyer and JT Tuimoloau to the NFL Draft. While players like Kenyatta Jackson Jr. and Caden Curry are expected to step into larger roles, the addition of Atkinson brings elite experience and production at a critical position.

Recruiting analysts have already pegged Atkinson as a likely starter from Day 1, given his collegiate pedigree and fit in the Buckeyes’ aggressive 4-2-5 system. His ability to set the edge, shed blockers, and chase down quarterbacks could give Ohio State the kind of game-changing presence off the edge that is essential in high-stakes matchups — particularly as the Buckeyes prepare for a grueling 2025 schedule that includes games against Oregon, Michigan, and Penn State.

“Beau Atkinson isn’t just a solid pickup — he’s a difference-maker,” said Rivals recruiting analyst Adam Gorney. “This is a guy who changes game plans and forces offenses to account for him on every down.”

With Atkinson on board, Ohio State continues to show why it remains a top transfer destination. Head coach Ryan Day and his staff have been highly active in the portal this offseason, targeting plug-and-play athletes who can help the Buckeyes push for a national title. Atkinson joins other new additions such as former West Virginia running back CJ Donaldson, Purdue tight end Max Klare, and Minnesota offensive tackle Phillip Daniels.

For Atkinson, the mission is clear: dominate in Columbus, win championships, and elevate his NFL stock. For Ohio State, it’s one more piece in a growing puzzle aimed at returning to the top of college football’s mountain.
