BOOM: Star DT  Commits to Ohio State Over Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State — Buckeyes Win Massive Recruiting Battle…read more….

In a stunning recruiting win that shakes up the national landscape, the Ohio State Buckeyes have secured a commitment from one of the most coveted defensive tackles in the country — Maraad Watson. The elite run-stopper from Syracuse chose the Buckeyes over powerhouse programs including Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State, signaling a huge victory for head coach Ryan Day and his staff.

Watson, a 6-foot-3, 313-pound monster in the trenches, was one of the highest-rated defensive linemen available in the transfer portal. He earned All-ACC Freshman Team honors last season after racking up 41 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks while anchoring the middle of Syracuse’s defense. His physical dominance, high motor, and relentless pursuit made him an instant difference-maker in the ACC, and now, he’s bringing that same energy to Columbus.

“I chose Ohio State because it felt like home, and it’s a place where I can develop into the best version of myself — as a player and as a man,” Watson said in a video posted to social media. “Coach Johnson’s track record speaks volumes, and I want to be a part of a championship team that’s built on greatness.”

Watson’s decision didn’t come easy. He took visits to Georgia and Florida State and reportedly had multiple conversations with Nick Saban’s successor at Alabama. But in the end, the Buckeyes’ vision, culture, and need for elite talent in the interior line swayed the Brooklyn native. His commitment fills a major need for Ohio State, which has been looking to bolster its defensive front after the departure of key veterans and to complement returning tackle Kayden McDonald.

Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson played a crucial role in landing Watson. Known for producing NFL-caliber defensive linemen, Johnson pitched Watson on the opportunity to become the next great Buckeye defender — in the mold of former stars like Michael Hall Jr., DaVon Hamilton, and Dre’Mont Jones.

“Maraad brings raw power, quickness off the snap, and a serious edge to our defensive line,” Johnson said. “He’s a disruptor in every sense of the word. We’re excited to get him into our system and help him unlock his full potential.”

Watson is expected to immediately compete for a starting job, and many believe he could be one of the most impactful defensive additions in the Big Ten this offseason. Analysts say his decision to choose Ohio State over three top-tier SEC and ACC programs sends a clear message about where the Buckeyes stand on the national stage.

“He’s the type of recruit that wins you playoff games,” said 247Sports analyst Allen Trieu. “Watson choosing Ohio State shows that Columbus remains one of the premier destinations for elite defensive talent.”

With Watson in the fold, Ohio State continues to load up on game-changers through the portal, building a roster capable of contending for a national championship. And for Buckeye Nation, Maraad Watson’s commitment is more than just a recruiting win — it’s a statement.
