The major reason Why some travelers are ignoring the USA
Uneaka Daniels hasn’t been to the United States in a long time because of what she went through the last few times she was there.
Born and raised in Bermuda Daniels chose to get her hair done while she was in Atlanta in 2019. She stopped a man on the way to the salon to ask him how to get there. All of a sudden, everyone dove. A person shot from their car.
She told USA TODAY, “I could see the gun and see it being fired.” “The people on the street did…” It’s like it never happened, and I’m trying to hide behind a tree. “You guys aren’t scared of this,” I asked. “It happens all the time,” he replied.
An operation took place on her last trip to the U.S. in 2023. While Daniels was healing, she went to the park across the street from her hotel “to get some sun.” But she didn’t like the people there; she thought some of them were sketchy or were trying to get her to give them money. She said, “It was too much.”
The number of TSA gun checks is going up:These are the things we saw at one of the busiest airports:
It’s been four years since she last went to the U.S. “I love going to the United States. “I loved the people and everything about it, but I’m about to leave,” she said. “That doesn’t mean I won’t come back.”
Another thing that has turned Daniels off to the U.S. is the rise in mass killings and homelessness. This is especially true for her as a schoolteacher. “What I saw on the US news was scary,” she said. “People I know say things have changed.”
Daniels is not the only one who isn’t sure.
More and more people from other countries are choosing not to go to the U.S. A new study by the U.S. Travel Association and EuroMonitor International shows that the country’s travel industry is still struggling to recover from the pandemic. In 2023, there will be 12 million fewer visitors than in 2019, the study says. The U.S. came in 17th out of the top 18 travel markets, just above China. One big reason for this was safety, since getting a visa takes time and the U.S. dollar is strong.
The U.S. dropped four spots on the World Economic Forum (WEF) Safety and Security Index from 2019 to 2021. This was due to the fact that police services were not reliable and people were afraid of gun crime.
Geoff Freeman, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, told USA TODAY, “There’s no doubt that risk is something that all travelers worry about.”
